Sparring / Chi Sao Rules and Regulations
1. There is to be no sparring at our Academy without Sifu approval.
2. Sifu must be present during all sparring and Chi Sao training.
3. Full sparring equipment must be worn during our light contact sparring/drills including the following approved foam-type safety equipment:
a. Headgear – having full cage to protect the face
b. Hand gear – covering fingers, knuckles and wrist area
c. Footgear – covering the full foot including toes
d. Shin guards
e. Groin cup for men/boys
f. Mouthpiece
4. When sparring, there will be no strikes to the face, period. Also, no strikes to the groin, or joints (like the knees) spine and kidneys. No throws or full takedowns, and no elbow or knee strikes (let’s save that self-defense training for the streets!)
5. Excessive force and full contact will not be tolerated. Sparring is simply used for timing and reflex training, not to injure your Kung Fu brothers and sisters. Anyone using malicious intentions and unsportsmanlike conduct will not be allowed to spar and may be permanently dismissed from our Academy.
6. All participants must listen to the referee and immediately break or stop when told.
7. Sparring is OPTIONAL…. If you (or parents of minors) are not comfortable with engaging in contact with others, it is quite fine. However, it must be stressed that our “controlled” sparring is one of the best ways to gain both self-defense skills and confidence… all done within our safe and supervised environment.
